I did want to workout today. I had planned on doing some back squat work and breaking in a new piece of equipment but a combination of long hours yesterday and today combined with not much sleep (thank you early morning work phone calls) left my body telling me to chill. Sometimes you need the mental toughness to get moving and exercise even though you may not feel like it and other times it’s important to look at the overall picture, listen to your body, and give it some time to recover.
What is the difference? Rest days should be intentional. Not working out because you didn’t feel like it is not a rest day….that’s just not working out. I have those…more than I’d like to admit. Rest days are days you plan to limit strength and endurance activity and focus on nutrition, rest, and recovery.
