Kids competition class followed by open mat. One of my coworkers has been doing BJJ for 5 months now and warned to roll recently. During one of our sessions she tried (unsuccessfully) some exotic guard sweeps and submissions. Using basic fundamentals I was able to defeat these very easily. Also I was able to pass guard using very basic fundamental movements.
Trying hard not to knock her academy I pointed out to her that at 5 months of experience she should be working on fundamentals such as replacing guard and shrimping out of bad positions rather than gogopolata and berimbolo sweeps. It’s one of the reasons I like to watch the kids class. It helps me remember the basics from a step by step perspective.
If you can’t do it slow, you can’t do it fast.
